NEW YORK — “The best thing to do when anything is going wrong is to turn to creativity,” said Denise Rich, summing up her family’s philosophy of how to face adversity.
So in the wake of the controversy surrounding her ex-husband’s presidential pardon, she’s hard at work writing songs, including one for the Latin singer Marc Anthony, who was among her entourage Wednesday night. They were attending her daughter Ilona Rich’s debut fashion show.
Naturally, this combination would have made for a media event in itself.
But there was more — the Riches had recruited a cast of their social friends to model in the show, including Rachel Peters, Liz Cohen, Erin Flanagan, Paris and Nikki Hilton, Julie Baker and Daniella Rich. Alex and Alexandra Von Furstenberg, Dean Winters from “Oz,” Scott Barnhill and New York Jets new wide receiver Matthew Hatchette showed up in the audience.
Backstage, the models got into the spirit of Rich’s playful collection, a rainbow-striped assortment of crocheted sweaters, lace-up jeans and ballgowns made in children’s pajama prints and fabrics.
Casey Johnson, whose arms were varied shades of orange as a result of a self-tanning experiment she’s performing for her new job as associate beauty editor of Manhattan File, had seen Daniella Rich in one of her sister’s gowns at a recent benefit and was struck by the dress — “It was surreal,” Johnson said. “It’s something you always want but don’t think would ever exist.”
