NEW YORK — Henri Bendel has embraced the vintage craze.
After a successful pairing beginning last fall with the vintage-clothing retailer Resurrection, the specialty store has decided to dedicate some space to vintage handbags.
For three days beginning on Thursday, Bendel’s will hold a vintage handbag trunk show, adding about 100 bags to Bendel’s current inventory from designers such as Hermes, Gucci, Christian Dior, Judith Leiber, Pucci and Roberta Di Camerino. Prices will range from $495 for some Gucci bags to about $3,500 for Hermes pieces. Resurrection’s vintage expert, Megan Howard, will be on hand on Bendel’s third floor adjacent to the Resurrection boutique to assist customers in making their choices and maintaining order as well, given the current frenzy for all things from the Sixties, Seventies and Eighties.
A Bendel’s spokeswoman said the Resurrection shop has exceeded the store’s expectations since its opening and handbags have been among the top-selling categories. She added that Resurrection has kept Bendel’s well supplied and that the store may even add more trunk shows for fall and holiday.
Ten percent of sales from the trunk show will be donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.
