NEW YORK — Anna Wintour’s got the “can-do” spirit.
Vogue’s editor in chief will co-host two linked events on April 17 — the world premiere of “Moulin Rouge,” and the CFDA-Vogue Initiative/New York City AIDS Fundraiser.
Dolce & Gabbana, John Galliano for Christian Dior, Nicolas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga, Helmut Lang, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, Oscar de la Renta, Donatella Versace and Manolo Blahnik have all agreed to create one-of-a-kind, couture-quality cancan outfits. (Blahnik will offer his take on cancan boots). The creations will be auctioned that evening, with the proceeds benefiting the CFDA-Vogue Initiative/New York City AIDS Fund.
Sharing hosting duties with Wintour for both events are Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor.
The film premiere will take place at The Paris Theatre here, followed by a supper and live auction at Brassierie 8 1/2. The supper will re-create the spirit of the Moulin Rouge in decor, cuisine and entertainment — right down to the cancan dancers who will high-kick their way down the restaurant’s spiral staircase.
