Lillie Milovanovic, owner, Lillie Alexander, Lake Forest, Ill.
Where she shops: “Chicago, Coterie and New York showrooms.”
Secret finds: “Margaret O’Leary. It’s one of those lines we get in and sell out of immediately.”
Tried-and-true lines: “Iris Singer, Kors by Michael Kors, Chaiken, CK by Calvin Klein, Lilly Pulitzer. For special occasion, Diane Von Furstenberg has been our hottest thing lately. And Kay Unger and Kathlin Argiro, too. Kate Spade is our strength in handbags, wallets and now shoes. We always do well with Vicenva belts. They’re very chic. Our newest jewelry is Glenn Bradford out of New York.”
Current bestsellers: “Anything in faux or real fur from jackets to accessories. Leather too. Animal prints have slowed down, but tweeds are doing well. Color, especially the “new” reds like cranberry, is flying out the door. Women are saying they don’t want black and really meaning it.
Favorite showrooms: “Karin Berger and D2K.”
Biggest challenge at the Chicago Apparel Center: “Finding lines that not everybody in the North Shore has. Even though our customers differ, I see many lines ending up in all the stores.”
January market agenda: “Filling in spring and starting summer. Looking for kid’s lines, too, since we just added a children’s section by buying an existing business in town. We are trying to provide one-stop shopping. With Lake Forest being such a family town, I think it will be a good combination.”
