MILAN — Genny Holding SpA is on a spring run to boost its stable of designers.
One week after naming Martine Sitbon as women’s creative director at Genny-controlled Byblos, and Sandy Dalal as men’s designer there, WWD has learned the Italian fashion company is in talks with Lawrence Steele.
Industry sources here said Genny was close to signing Steele as a consultant for its Genny label.
Steele could not be reached for comment. A spokesman close to the American-born designer said he was unaware of any possible deal with the group.
As reported, the family-run company is out to rejuvenate not only the Byblos brand but also its Genny label. Since the mid-Nineties, Byblos has struggled to find the right designer to breathe life into the brand. John Bartlett, who left Byblos last year, was the latest in a string of designers brought in to help redefine the young, colorful line.
Steele, who had stints with Moschino and Prada, launched his signature collection here in 1994. He shows during Milan’s Fashion Week.
