PROM QUEEN AND MYSTERY BOY: Being a rock star/heartthrob doesn’t always count for much during fashion week. Despite his front-row seats at Vivienne Tam, not too many people recognized Matchbox 20 lead singer Rob Thomas, there with his model wife Marisol; even as they snapped away, photographers were asking “Who is that?” Thomas, however, was fully conversant with the runway roster. He loved Betsey Johnson’s show, for example, and was planning to go to Marc Jacobs, as well. “Since Marisol is modeling in a few of the shows, those are sure to be my favorites,” he said. Then, pointing out his wife’s white sweater coat, he added, “Vivienne Tam has always been one of my favorite designers.”
“He went to the store and picked this out for me,” she said. “He has great taste.”
Cynthia Nixon, meanwhile, was mixing her labels. She wore a Betsey Johnson coat and pants at the Tam show. But she can be forgiven; Nixon’s loyalty goes back to her high- school days. “I wore Betsey Johnson to my prom,” she said, describing that outfit as “black, tight, with long sleeves and a short hemline. Lots of Lycra.”

BROADCAST NEWS: Despite her recent departure from CNN, Elsa Klensch has managed to maintain a front-row presence, scribbling notes at shows including Michael Kors and Oscar de la Renta. The former “Style” maven said she has some job possibilities under consideration, but wouldn’t specify what they are. Male model and former Pamela Anderson escort Marcus Schenkenberg, however, is spending this week on the other side of a flashbulb, covering the shows for the TV program “Extra.” “I’m interviewing designers and celebrities,” he said. “Everyone’s been very nice and responsive, but I’m just doing this for the week. It’s just for fun.” Asked if he was getting paid for the effort, though, Schenkenberg quoted fellow model Linda Evangelista’s famous line: “I don’t get out of bed for less than 10 grand, you know.”
