OVERIN NOW GM OF VNU EXPOSITIONS

Los Angeles — Court Overin, director of the ASR Trade Expo, has been promoted to general manager of VNU Expositions, a new position at the New York-based parent company of the action sports show.
Overin said he will continue to market ASR until his replacement is hired.
In his new role, Overin will oversee seven sports shows, including Outdoor Retailer, Fly Fishing Retailers, Interbike and ASR. He’ll also manage sports show-related publications, including guides and destination directories.
“We’re trying to take some of the success we’ve had at ASR and move [the strategies] to other shows,” Overin said. “[The action sports industry] is a very demanding show to market because it’s sensitive and influential. It’s a great market, but fickle, and you always have to be on your toes.”
Overin added the company will look for ways to make the sports shows’ individual Web sites profitable through a potential combination of subscription and advertising revenues.
Overin will report to Jim Bracken, president, and Mary Kay Sustek, vice president, of VNU Expositions.
VNU Inc., which is the second largest trade show producer in the world, completed its acquisition of the U.S. assets of Miller Freeman, ASR’s former parent, in November. The ASR Trade Expo runs this weekend, Feb. 3-5, at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, Calif.
