BELK’S SETS $58 MILLION FOR OPENINGS
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Belk will spend $58 million this year to open four new stores and expand or renovate another eight.
The North Carolina-based retailer will enter three new markets when it opens stores in Lake City, Fla., on March 7, Nacogdoches, Tex., on March 14, and Shallotte, N.C., in October.
A replacement store will open in Winter Haven, Fla., in August.
The four existing Belk stores, which will be expanded and renovated, are in Asheville and Waynesville, N.C., and Roanoke and Harrisonburg, Va. The stores that are slated for major renovations this year are in Wilmington, N.C., Aiken and Anderson, S.C., and Jacksonville, Fla.
Belk is the country’s largest privately owned department store company, with 207 stores in 13 Southeastern and MidAtlantic states.
