NEW YORK — Kirk Palmer & Associates Inc. on Monday named Jerald Politzer managing director of business development, which is a new position at the executive search firm.
Politzer has been working as a consultant, but in the late Nineties was chairman and chief executive officer of Salant Corp., a $380 million men’s wear company with the Perry Ellis, Manhattan and John Henry brands.
Prior to joining Salant in 1997, he was executive vice president of the former Melville Corp., an $11 billion retail holding company that divested most of its holdings. Politzer joined Melville in 1989. At different times during his tenure there, Marshall’s, Linens ‘N’ Things, Wilson’s Leather, FootAction USA, KayBee Toys, This End Up, Meldisco, Bob’s Stores and Thom McAn Shoes reported to him. Melville retained the CVS drug store chain and changed its named to CVS Corp.
Politzer began his career in 1970 with the Hecht division of The May Department Stores Co., where he rose through the merchandising ranks to become executive vice president. In 1986, he became president and ceo of May Co.’s G Fox division until joining Melville in 1989.
Kirk Palmer, president, said Politzer’s experience in retailing and wholesaling extends across all product categories, adding, “I think Jerry can play a critical role to create additional business for our firm. He’s got a lot of retail, wholesale, Wall Street and investment banking contacts.”
In a statement, Politzer said: “The transition into the executive search field allows me to leverage my extensive network and knowledge of the industry. I look forward to working with our business partners to assist them in their management needs.”
