NEW YORK — After a five-year hiatus, Nordstrom has returned to illustration for its designer division advertising.
Ruben Toledo was hired to illustrate the spring campaign and to provide creative concepts for invitations and staging for its seven major designer events this year, as well as display windows for designer merchandise. Previously, Nordstrom photographed its designer ad campaigns.
The illustrated campaign will run in the February and March issues of Vogue and W, and will feature such designer collections as Miguel Adrover, Pucci, Zang Toi, Moschino, D&G, Dolce & Gabbana, Yves Saint Laurent and Emanuel Ungaro.
A Nordstrom spokeswoman declined to reveal the spring budget, but said it’s even with spring 2000.
Last year, Nordstrom launched its first major brand campaign and the first national TV advertising campaign in its history. Themed “Reinvent Yourself,” the campaign, which included TV, magazine and outdoor ads, played up the Nordstrom name and style. This was a departure from its previous item-oriented newspaper strategy. The designer division ads carried the “Reinvent Yourself” tag, but it wasn’t as prominently displayed as it was in other merchandise categories.
