SHOSHANNA’S BIG SPLASH

NEW YORK — Like any true designer, Shoshanna Lonstein is not one to linger on the present.
That is why for Lonstein, last week’s party at B-bar, which marked an article about the designer’s new swimwear in this month’s issue of Cosmopolitan, bordered on the anticlimactic.
“A lot of people are seeing this for the first time tonight,” said Lonstein. “I’m like, ‘It’s been out. Didn’t you buy it on the first day?”‘
In a room decorated with beach balls suspended from the ceiling like disco balls and colorful inflatable rafts, bikini-clad models with pigtails lounged on banquettes and mingled among the guests.
There were also poster-size images of Lonstein in her new suits, which appeared in the February issue of Cosmopolitan.
Russell Simmons said he stopped by to see his friend’s work. His wife, Kimora Lee Simmons, who has her own lingerie line, is inspired by Lonstein’s designs, he said.
Donovan Leitch, Duncan Sheik, Taylor Dayne and Charlotte and Samantha Ronson were a few of the other better-known guests at the party. Two women who appreciate the need for a flattering swimsuit, Miss Universe Lara Dutta and Miss America Lynette Cole stopped by to check out the line, and in a case of life imitating tabloid TV, members of the cast and crew of “Temptation Island” checked in for a spell.
What they saw up close was Lonstein’s halter tops, ruffled bottoms and tie-side bikinis. Shown to stores in November and launched at retail this month, the swimwear separates consist of cherry prints, garden party florals and pastel paisleys.
Some of the looks are on display this week in Bloomingdale’s Lexington Avenue windows. For the line’s official launch this weekend, Lonstein will make a special appearance Sunday at Bloomingdale’s flagship.
They also got a glimpse of what Lonstein has in store for fall. Several guests inquired about her burgundy ombre dress with gold straps, she said.
