TOCCA LAUNCHES FULL HANDBAG LINE

NEW YORK — Those favoring Tocca’s signature little dress will soon have a line of handbags to choose from, too.
The company, which has evolved from that dress into a complete ready-to-wear collection, lingerie, beauty and home product lines, is introducing a full collection of handbags during this fall accessories market.
Tocca has always had some accessories — handbags, scarves and hats to complement the rtw — but this is the first time it is launching a complete handbags collection.
“We want to capture a slice of the accessories market and we feel strongly that we are ready for it now,” said Edoardo Mantelli, Tocca’s chairman. “We started with rtw, and accessories seem like a natural evolution of the line.”
Gordon Finkelstein, Tocca’s president, added: “We have dabbled in accessories, but both retailers and consumers demanded a full collection.”
The line is manufactured in Italy and features hardware designed exclusively for Tocca, according to Mantelli. There are 15 handbag styles in three groups: Airline, Country Chic and Cine Citta.
Airline has four styles including a satchel with two handles and a front pocket and a rectangular shoulder bag with zipper closure. They are available in wool and calf leather in combinations such as green wool tweed with a tan leather trim, or mustard and brown wool with brown leather trim. Each Airline handbag is lined with a contrasting blue grosgrain trim.
Cine Citta’s six styles include a large shoulder bag with flap and buckle closures and a cosmetic rectangular pouch. Named after a film studio near Rome favored by Federico Fellini, the handbags are available in all leather or wool and leather. Colors include tan with pink trim or wine with lilac trim. Each Cine Citta style is lined with pink grosgrain.
Country Chic’s five suede styles include a large hobo handbag with side buckle details, a shopper and a crescent- shape shoulder bag. They feature a stripe of green and mustard or green and pink webbing across the front of the bag and are lined with a tattersall.
Finkelstein said the company’s plan is to grow the handbag line to account for 10 percent of the total business, with the first-year wholesale volume projection at $1.5 million.
The wholesale prices range from $36 to $250. The distribution strategy is similar to the rtw, which, in addition to the three Tocca boutiques in Tokyo, New York and London, targets upscale department and specialty stores with delivery planned for July.
