NEW YORK —, an Internet off-pricer hawking designer styles, has named Robert Greenwald as executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, WWD has learned. Greenwald succeeds David Dash, who resigned from his post as chief merchant of the Web site, according to Malcolm Sherman, chief executive of Smart-Bargains.
Prior to joining the dot-com, Greenwald was senior vice president and general merchandise manager of Raleigh, N.C.-based Variety Wholesalers/Roses Inc. Boston-based SmartBargains is aiming to leverage strategic partnerships that it has forged with liquidator Gordon Bros. and America Online. It carries big brands like Liz Claiborne and Nicole Miller, along with lesser-known labels.
