THE NEXT PHASE
NEW YORK — These days, everybody knows Burberry’s iconic plaid. This season, while it’s definitely there, it’s not always as obvious. In the past three years, the Prorsum collection has changed considerably — which, of course, has transformed the firm. And now the house’s secondary line, Burberry London, is doing the same this spring. For one thing, plaid is taking a backseat to other more novel details and shapes, and the signature pattern is used more as a trim or accent.
But that isn’t the only one of the Burberry classics that’s being toyed with. The minikilts are in leather or denim, while trenches show up in the form of rubberized chartreuse jackets that are cropped at the waist. With a nod to Isak Dinesen, there is also a terrific group of safari looks — loose-legged shorts shown with argyle halters or cashmere polos.
