GHESQUIERE SAID OUT AT CALLAGHAN
MILAN — Nicolas Ghesquiere has left his design post at Callaghan, and as a result, there will be no fall 2001 collection, according to a well-placed industry source here.
“Nicolas and the company spent so much time negotiating the new contract that there was no time to design the collection and no time to find a new designer,” the source said.
A Callaghan spokeswoman declined to comment, and Ghesquiere could not be reached for comment.
In his three seasons with Callaghan, Ghesquiere was widely praised by editors and retailers. Ghesquiere’s contract was renewed on a seasonal basis, and he and Callaghan had both agreed that he would not take credit for the collections.
Ghesquiere is also the chief designer at the Paris-based Balenciaga. As reported in WWD, both Ghesquiere and Balenciaga are said to be acquisition targets for Gucci Group.
