NEW YORK — J.Lo by Jennifer Lopez is plunging into the swimwear market, WWD has learned.
Sources said that Sweetface Fashions, which holds the master license for the pop star’s brand, is about to sign its first license with A&H Sportswear here, for swimwear, and that the deal is expected to be done this week. The first line would hit stores next spring. A spokesman for Lopez declined comment.
A&H makes swimwear under the Backflips, Jones New York, Mainstream, Miracle Suit, Dippers California and Pieces labels.
Sweetface will launch its first contemporary sportswear and jeanswear collection in stores this November. These categories are being contracted by the company.
As reported, in April the singer signed a mega deal with Tommy Hilfiger’s younger brother Andy Hilfiger to produce the sportswear and jeanswear line that is expected to reap sales of $100 million in the first 18 months.
Under the joint venture between Hilfiger’s holding company, Music Entertainment Fashions Inc., and Lopez, Sweetface Fashions was formed to create the J.Lo by Jennifer Lopez brand. Distribution will include better department stores and specialty stores.
At the time, Sweetface execs said they would explore licensing opportunities in various categories including fragrance, footwear, accessories, eyewear and swimwear.
