HARMAN TO ELLEN TRACY
Byline: Eric Wilson
NEW YORK — Karen Harman has been tapped to head the design team of Ellen Tracy, taking over the senior creative position that was vacated in February by Charles Nolan, who jumped ship to join the rival bridge company Anne Klein.
Harman, who reports to design director Linda Allard, has had a noteworthy career in the bridge segment, having most recently worked for Kellwood Co.’s bridge sportswear division Bill Burns as a designer of a more casual collection simply called Burns. Prior to that, she was co-designer of Dana Buchman and was once the “Karen” of its offshoot label Dana B. and Karen, which was a more casual brand.
Harman’s influence on the Ellen Tracy collection will begin to appear in its fall 2002 collection.
She worked with Buchman for 10 years on the collection, which is Liz Claiborne’s bridge division, as vice president of design. She left that company in 1999, around the same time the Dana B. and Karen collection was canceled.
