ARMANI HEADS TO ARGENTINA
MILAN — Argentina is getting its first Emporio Armani store.
The Armani Group on Oct. 1 will open a 30,800-square-foot flagship on five levels in Buenos Aires. The store will house the women’s and men’s Emporio Armani and Armani Jeans apparel and accessories collections, as well as an Armani Caffe and a bookstore.
Armani said Monday that it was planning a 22,000-square-foot store in Hong Kong, combining the Collezioni and Emporio brands, possibly cosmetics and home and the Caffe. That unit would open in September 2002.
In other Armani news, a small fire caused by an electrical short circuit broke out at the designer’s theater here early Thursday morning, causing no damage.
“We have security people in the building. The fire was discovered at 7 a.m. and was quickly put out by the firemen,” said an Armani spokesman, adding that no one was hurt.
The theater, where the designer holds his runway shows, is located at 21 Via Borgonuovo. Armani lives in an apartment four floors above. When he was informed of the fire, he wandered downstairs to check the situation, but did not run out of the building, said the spokesman.
