NEW YORK — Mariah Carey, Sugar Ray, John Mellencamp, Alicia Keys, Macy Gray and Lenny Kravitz will perform Friday night before a live audience at the VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards. The show will air Oct. 23 at 9 p.m. on VH1.
This year’s show will take place at The Hammerstein Ballroom at 311 West 34th Street, here. Rather than the usual theater setting, guests will be seated at cocktail tables and drinks will be served.
According to Candy Pratts Price, creative director for the VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards, instead of a host, music and fashion will be the anchors, with people appearing on the stage throughout. Among the celebrity presenters are Gwyneth Paltrow, Nelly Furtado, Hillary Swank, Moby, Mick Jagger, P. Diddy, Tom Ford, Renee Zellweger, Tom Ford, Gisele Bundchen, Angie Harmon, Gwen Stefani and Chris North.
The guest list includes Stella McCartney, Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, Destiny’s Child, Elton John and Oscar de la Renta.
This year, there will be several new awards such as Rebel Designer of the Year; Best Dressed Television Show; Newcomer Awards (male and female), Leading Man, Sharp Dressed Man, and Red Carpet Award, in addition to existing categories such as Designer of the Year, Model of the Year, Stylish Group and Visionary Video.
The Designer of the Year nominees, which were determined by online voting at Style.com and VH1.com, are Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana, Donatella Versace, Chloe by Stella McCartney and Tom Ford for Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche. The winner also will be determined by cyber-voting.
The actual awards were designed by Tom Sachs, while this year’s set was created by Bruce Rogers of “Tribe,” who designed the set for Madonna’s recent “Drowned” tour.
This marks the show’s seventh year, and the third year that VH1 and Vogue have been partners. According to Price, there will be several skits, including what she called “A ‘Zoolander’ moment.”
“It wouldn’t be the VH1/Vogue Awards without it,” she said.
