FASHION SCOOPS
GO WEST: Let Helmut Lang, Stella McCartney et al jam up Paris’s ready-to-wear calendar this October. Jeremy Scott is heading west, way west, moving his fashion house to Los Angeles this fall. “You know me — when everyone goes left, I go right,” he said. “Everybody and their mother is coming here to Paris. L.A. is the new frontier for me. Who knows, I might be all Barbara Mandrell and bring back made-in-the-U.S.A.” Scott, a native of Kansas City who stormed Paris six years ago with gold-lame collections and declarations of “vive l’avant-garde,” said he fell in love with Los Angeles over the past two years. “Los Angeles is a real fashion city,” he added. “That’s where people are wearing the clothes!” Given the complex logistics of moving, Scott said he might skip the spring 2002 season and have his next show in the spring, possibly in New York.
Meanwhile, the Paris influx continues. Word has it that those children of darkness, Imitation of Christ, are thinking of moving their next show to the City of Light.
NUE NEWS?: Yves Saint Laurent officials remained tight-lipped Sunday about today’s launch of the top secret new fragrance by Tom Ford — even in the face of reports in one French newspaper that its name is “Nue,” the French word for nude. But a few details have leaked out about the party. The deejay is Mark Ronson and expected guests include Charlize Theron and Rossy de Palma.
SUPER COMEBACK: It looks like Linda Evangelista is gearing up for a comeback and could even stalk the catwalks again as early as this fall. Certainly there are signs of another supermodel moment, what with Shalom Harlow gliding through couture shows all over town and Carolyn Murphy and Amber Valletta getting applause at Versace, which they walked exclusively on Saturday night.
FUTURE SYSTEMS: Courreges, the Paris house with space-age proclivities, will host a “happening” tonight at its futuristic Rue Francois 1er headquarters. Liftoff is at eight o’clock for the event that is being billed “Backstage de Vintage.” Although the house was mum on details, Coqueline Courreges, who faxed handwritten invites to the press late last week, is expected to feature a wide variety of the house’s products, which have enjoyed a style and retail renaissance in recent seasons.
POLAROID MOMENT: A picture is worth a thousand words — or something like that. The house of Pierre Balmain and Edwin Land, the founder of Polaroid, are planning to launch a new Polaroid camera at Oscar de la Renta’s couture presentation for the house on Monday. The house declined details, but the new instant camera has been dubbed the 1200 FF.
