NEW YORK — Continuing to diversify, the Leslie Fay Co. has set a deal to purchase contemporary suit and dress house Trio New York, WWD has learned.
Although executives at Leslie Fay and Trio declined to comment on the acquisition, sources said that the new division of Leslie Fay will be called the Trio Group and will set its sights on expanding the label beyond ready-to-wear. Trio is expected to move from its showroom at 214 West 39th Street in Manhattan into a new space at 530 Fifth Avenue beginning in August. The deal is expected to be finalized within the next month.
Trio was launched in 1993 by the husband and wife team of Steven and Judith Garfield, who will continue to design the collection, known for its ensemble dressing.
In addition to its signature label of dresses and sportswear, in recent years Leslie Fay has acquired dress house David Warren and contemporary sportswear firm Cynthia Steffe, as well as obtaining the license for Liz Claiborne Dresses.
