NAUTICA SAYS IT’S NOT IDOL
NEW YORK — “John is not joining Nautica.”
That’s the word from Harvey Sanders, chairman and chief executive officer of Nautica Enterprises, responding to widespread speculation about the next move of John Idol, who stepped down as chief executive officer of Donna Karan Inc. on Friday.
Idol said he has another job lined up, but has not disclosed his plans. Speculation had centered on a possible link-up with designer John Varvatos at Nautica, but Sanders sought to squelch those rumors on Tuesday, saying Idol would not be joining the firm.
However, a new scenario surfaced on Tuesday, indicating Idol’s next job might fall within the realm of beauty, possibly working on a product launch. Idol, reached by phone, declined to comment.
