NEW YORK — In addition to breaking records at Saks Fifth Avenue with a $2.6 million trunk show last week — the largest on record for the store — Bill Blass confirmed on Wednesday that it had hired Herve Pierre Braillard to join its design team from the ranks of Vera Wang.
The designer, who is known professionally as Herve Pierre, had been rumored to be moving to Blass in February, but denied those reports at the time and stayed on at Wang’s company another three months. His appointment at Blass, as design director, will become effective on May 2 and he will report to Lars Nilsson, creative director, said Michael Groveman, chief executive officer.
At Vera Wang, Pierre worked with celebrity clients, ready-to-wear, bridal and fur designs and is expected to work with Nilsson on similar categories at Blass, particularly focusing on eveningwear.
At Saks, where the trunk show wrapped up on Friday, the Bill Blass fall collection more than doubled the store’s previous big shows, around the $1 million mark — reached by Blass, de la Renta and Giorgio Armani.
