NEW YORK — Mass market cosmetics are taking on a healthier glow as sales pick up with the New Year. Dollar volume has risen 8.5 percent to $3.2 billion and corresponding unit sales are up 2.3 percent for the 52 weeks ended Jan. 23, according to Information Resources Inc. As recently as November, unit sales were flat. Categories driving growth include eye shadow and foundation — both are enjoying double-digit gains. Nail polish, on the other hand, has not been able to match its sales of last year.
