NEW AT ILU: Junior and girls’ sportswear firm ILU in Los Angeles has hired Peter Najera as its head designer, which is a newly created position. Najera was brought in as part of an effort to expand the basics-driven brand into a larger and more fashion-focused collection, according to Pat Welman, vice president of merchandising.
Najera, who was most recently responsible for design and sales at Doc Martens’ young contemporary apparel division, will now oversee ILU’s sourcing, forecasting, designing and merchandising for the junior and girl’s sportswear and dress collections.

DELIA’S VP: Delia’s, the Generation-Y direct-marketing firm, has named Patricia Waechter to the new position of executive vice president of retail.
She will oversee retail, merchandising, marketing and store operations at Delia’s, which now operates 17 units and has plans to become a national chain.
Waechter, 44, most recently served as vice president and general merchandise manager of Mothers Work, a Philadelphia-based retailer of maternity apparel, and was also a senior vice president of merchandise and planning at Paul Harris Stores.
