PARIS — For fall, some designers are showcasing hip Eighties-inspired styles that have punk or New Wave overtones — a la vintage Chrissie Hynde or Blondie — or their interpretation of the era’s over-the-top luxury. Others are going in for more low-key ladylike looks. And accessories have never been so varied, whimsical, sexy and strong. Key pieces include low-slung belts, accented with gold or silver metal; silver chokers; long earrings; leather cuff bracelets with metal accents, and, of course, super-sexy, strappy, spike-heel sandals or ankle boots that look terrific with the newly-revived minis.
Then there are over-the-top diva looks that suggest Eighties glam. For the girl who likes to shine, there are oversized sunglasses with colored lenses; bold hats and glittery jewelry, including big gold or diamante hoops and huge fake diamond rings, along with anything featuring a silver or gold chain, be it a bag, shoes or a necklace.
With looks that have a more toned-down, ladylike elegance, designers are showing sexy, high-heeled pumps and strappy sandals; all sorts of hats, from fur-trimmed pieces to the classic French beret; gold chain belts; fur muffs, wraps and scarves, and wrist-length or driving-style gloves. Fabulous bags are important here, too, of course: jewel-encrusted evening numbers, ostrich carry-on pieces and classic shoulder-strap bags.
