PREP SCHOOL: With the help of a $275,000 grant from the Microsoft Corp., the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York has created an e-commerce center for study and training in the exploding electronic retail arena.
The center, which will offer three non-credit certificate programs in e-commerce, is starting this fall. Course work will include marketing, merchandising and design along with technology and business strategies.

INVESTMENT STRATEGY: Inc., an Internet development company, took a
$900,000 equity stake in e-Commerce Solutions LLC (ECS), marking the company’s first investment since adopting its new Internet business strategy to identify and develop early-stage Internet companies.
E-Commerce Solutions develops retail platforms for clients using proprietary technology. funded its investment by selling its domain name and customer lists to ECS for about $1 million.
In order to reflect its new focus on business-to-business deals, Cybershop anticipates changing its name and NASDAQ trading symbol in the near future.

ADD ONS: has added spring apparel from Vivienne Tam and Katayone Adeli and accessories from Rafe New York to its e-commerce site For fall, it will have Anna Sui, Rebecca Taylor, Adrienne Vittadini and Todd Oldham. The new vendors bring StyleShop’s total roster of contemporary and young designer names to about 45.
The site, which handles fulfillment for its vendors, also includes trend reports for consumers.
