NEW YORK — Teen pop queen Britney Spears has a new gig: spokeswoman for Clairol’s Herbal Essences franchise.
The pop singer has signed a deal to represent the brand, which is now up to 70 stockkeeping units.
Beginning later this spring, Spears will appear in television, print and radio advertising for the brand, as well as Internet promotions.
Clairol will also sponsor Spears’ 50-city summer tour, which runs from June 15 to Sept.10. “Sponsoring the tour will give us a number of great opportunities to sample the Herbal Essences brand,” said Larry Lucas, Herbal Essences’ senior product manager.
“While Herbal Essences appeals to a wide range of ages, teens are a a core segment — and we see this as a great opportunity to get the word out to them,” Lucas noted.
Lucas said that the company will hand out a to-be-determined number of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and skin care samples over the course of the tour.
Spears, who was nominated for a Grammy, has sold more than 11 million copies of her first album and has a second coming out later this spring.
