OPMAG GOES LIVE

NEW YORK — Ocean Pacific has teamed up with Kick Media, a publisher of youth-oriented Web sites, to launch a new online magalog called Opmag.com.
The site, which went live on March 8, targets Generation Y and features short articles about sporting events and athletes, teen health and beauty information, and current movie reviews. Opmag.com does not currently contain e-commerce capabilities, but those will be added within the next few months, said Richard Baker, OP’s chief executive officer.
Plans also include the introduction of games and music as well as links to other Kick-owned online magazines, including Snowboardermag.com and Surfermag.com.
“We plan to evolve into e-commerce, but the number one factor on the site is content,” Baker said. “We believe this is a creative way to draw this audience to a site.”
OP also operates a site at Op.com, which is designed as a brand-building tool and does not have e-commerce functions.
OP, based in Irvine, Calif., has been evolving into more of a lifestyle brand from the T-shirt and board shorts with which it started. The firm now has about 22 licensing agreements covering an array of product categories including activewear, footwear, bags and accessories.
