FASHION500 STYLE POST TO CAPITAIN

NEW YORK — Jenny Capitain, a former creative director of Mirabella, has joined Fashion500.com, a luxury Web site, as fashion director.
Capitain will style the shoots for the designer merchandise displayed on the site.
Fashion500.com, which will have a soft launch this summer and a full-blown launch in the fall, is expected to compete with such brick-and-mortar retailers as Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys New York, as well as upscale Internet players NeimanMarcus.com, Luxury.com, Nordstrom.com, Ashford.com and Saksfifthavenue.com.
Stephen Elkin, former chairman and chief executive officer of Bergdorf’s, left the store earlier this year to become president and ceo of Fashion500.com. Ira Neimark, another former Bergdorf’s chief and once Elkin’s boss, is an advisor to Fashion500.
The site has begun signing up high-profile, international luxury apparel and accessories brands and has an unusual Internet model: a hybrid, business-to-business-to-consumer venture that will not only sell products on its own Fashion500.com site, but create individual Web sites for designers and brands.
Capitain, who had been creative director of Mirabella for 2 1/2 years, left the magazine in December 1998. Before that, she was fashion director of French Vogue, and earlier was fashion director of American Vogue, where she worked six years.
