BOOKING PATAGONIA: Patagonia is on track to sell 30,000 issues of “Patagonia Notes from the Field,” a 138-page book that combines personal essays about adventure travel with color photography, according to a spokeswoman for Chronicle Books, the book’s publisher.
Distribution of the $30 item is being divided between the 17 Patagonia stores in the U.S. and select outdoor specialty stores and bookstores.
Newsman Tom Brokaw and novelist Paul Theroux are two of the better-known contributors to the book. Patagonia also called on several employees to tell their travel tales. Yvon Chouinard, the company’s founder; his daughter, Claire, one of its wear-testers; Lu Setnicka, director of public affairs, and Dave Olsen, the former president and chief executive officer of Patagonia, also offered essays.
