NEW YORK — Sears, Roebuck & Co. has named Carolyn Swearengin to the new post of senior vice president of product development and worldwide sourcing, reporting to Mark Cohen, president of the retailer’s softlines group.
Swearengin had been senior vice president of merchandising at She will oversee the product development, import operations and Sears’ overseas offices.
As reported, Sears’ softlines group sales have been suffering, and the company is planning to cut its apparel offerings again this year, on top of a 17 percent reduction in the category last year. The retailer is also facing increasing competition from aggressive chains such as Kohl’s and Target.
