GILLES DUFOUR EXPECTED TO EXIT BALMAIN
NEW YORK — Informed sources close to Balmain in Paris acknowledged that ready-to-wear designer Gilles Dufour is leaving the house.
While officials at the company would not comment, sources said an announcement of Dufour’s departure is expected this week.
The first report that Dufour, who designed the diffusion rtw line, was out appeared in these columns Monday.
Dufour joined the house in 1998 as artistic director, overseeing licensed products and the diffusion rtw. In his three-season tenure, he has earned rocky reviews.
Balmain produces three main women’s lines, including Ivoire luxury rtw and the Balmain couture collection, both of which are designed by Oscar de la Renta.
