BEAUTY BALL’S CLASS ACT
NEW YORK — The 25th annual March of Dimes Million Dollar Beauty Ball, held on Wednesday night, raised more than $1,258,000, securing the black-tie event’s reputation as the single largest fund-raising event for the March of Dimes.
The take is comparable with last year’s, even though the attendance of 675 was down by more than 10 percent.
Burt Tansky, president and chief operating officer of the Neiman Marcus Group, was presented with the Retailer of the Year award. He was introduced by Bobbi Brown, the makeup artist whose business Tansky has helped shepherd since its launch at Bergdorf Goodman a decade ago.
Arie Kopelman, president and chief operating officer of Chanel, received the Beautiful Apple Award from his childhood friend, “60 Minutes” editor Lesley Stahl.
Tansky and Kopelman couldn’t resist teasing each other about their business dealings, but they both turned serious when discussing the mission of the March of Dimes. “A healthy baby is one of life’s greatest joys,” said Kopelman.
