AMAZON LAUNCHES LINK FOR ITS HBA CUSTOMERS

NEW YORK — Amazon.com launched its new health and beauty store online Monday, providing a direct gateway to Drugstore.com, a site in which Amazon holds a minority stake.
The move by the Seattle cyber-giant follows the announcement on Jan. 24 that Amazon.com and Drugstore.com had entered into a strategic alliance to create a health and beauty shopping destination on Amazon’s site.
Since opening its virtual doors in July 1995, Amazon has expanded its assortment from books to offer more than 18 million items in toys, consumer electronics and home improvement as well as videos, CDs, computer software and video games.
In a statement Monday, Jeff Bezos, founder and chief executive officer of Amazon.com, said, “We want our customers to come to us to find anything and everything that they might want to buy online. This new store provides our 17 million customers with a convenient link to a wealth of health and beauty products from Drugstore.com.”
When shoppers go to the Amazon.com home page, they can click the “Health & Beauty” button and enter Drugstore.com’s storefront, gaining access to Drugstore.com’s 20,000 health and beauty products, content and buying guides, and full-service pharmacy.
“By opening our store on the Amazon.com site,” said Peter Neupert, president and ceo of Drugstore.com, “we’re making it easier and more convenient for customers to shop for health and beauty products while they’re shopping at Amazon.com.”
