NEW YORK — Donna Karan has taken another step in her brand’s legwear evolution.
Having been in the hosiery business for about 13 years, the designer has revamped her basic sheers.
This fall, Hanes Hosiery will launch Donna Karan Essentials, a nine-piece group of basics. Flat seams, knit-in waist bands, dyed-to-match gussets and decorative reinforced toes are among the line’s special features.
“As a designer, I’m all about change,” Donna Karan said. “That’s why we’ve updated our most popular hosiery collection to feature even more luxurious styling … to create the absolute essential.”
“For me, hosiery is the starting point of every collection. I consider it as basic to the language of dress as the body itself,” she said.
Essentials are offered in sheer and opaques legs with matte to satin finishes. Sheers with a tanga panty, control-top matte sheers and control-top satin opaques are among the styles.
The collection is offered in 14 colors and four sizes, small, medium, tall and plus petite.
Essentials will be launched in department stores and specialty stores this fall. Retail prices will range from $12 for knee-highs to $17 for control-top matte opaques.
Hanes has also designed new packaging for Donna Karan Essentials. Each package will have a closeup of the legs of a woman wearing the product.
During a presentation of the line for the media at the Hanes showroom last week, Deborah Boria, executive director of design and merchandising, said, “Comfort is essential. With today’s technology and knitting, we can make products more beautiful and comfortable.”
“We’re really excited about what’s happening on the runways,” she said. “Hosiery is expected to be force this fall.”
