NEW YORK — Narciso Rodriguez, known for transforming classic styles into hip, luxurious looks, is taking traditional silhouettes to another level with his new accessories collection for fall.
“My goal was to treat very rich materials in a new way, by taking chic and refined pieces and giving them a tougher edge,” he says. “It’s a younger way of looking at things that are quite classic.”
The line features pumps, T-straps, sandals and slingbacks, sexed up with killer stiletto heels and unexpected colors and materials. The key pieces included pale pink and blue alligator pumps and off-white or pink lizard skin sandals. The spectator shoes, available in classic black and white, are also offered in sizzling black and metallic gold.
As for the bags, there are carry-ons in plush brown and black alligator and soft leathers, and handbags in combinations of soft leather and exotic skins.
Collaborating with designer Tom Binns, who has created jewelry for Narciso’s last two ready-to-wear shows, has been an inspiration.
“Binns’s creativity has allowed me to explore different types of adornment, from silver chain straps on bags to buckles on a shoe or a coat,” Rodriguez says. The result: such pieces as a pink lizard bag with a chain strap, an off-white alligator handbag with an attached matching makeup bag and a motorcycle-chic, matte black leather bag with a silver chain-link strap.
Manufactured in Italy by Aeffe, the collection will be available at Neiman Marcus, Los Angeles; Bergdorf Goodman in New York; Stanley Korshak in Dallas, and Mario’s in Seattle and Portland, Ore. Wholesale prices range from $170 for a leather sandal to $3,900 for a crocodile handbag.
