NEW YORK — Jason Weisenfeld, vice president of public relations at Barneys New York, has joined Pegasus Apparel Group as executive vice president of public relations, advertising and marketing. He starts May 15.
He reports to Stephen L. Ruzow, chairman and chief executive officer of the fledgling American fashion conglomerate.
Weisenfeld, 33, has been with Barneys for four years. He was an integral member of the management team that shepherded the retailer through Chapter 11 and reorganization and kept its profile as a leader in upscale fashion retailing.
Prior to joining Barneys, Weisenfeld was director of public relations at Bloomingdale’s. Before that, he was at the White House as assistant to social secretary Ann Stock.
Ruzow said Weisenfeld’s hire is “very much part of our strategic plan to have very talented and experienced people at the corporate level to support our counterparts in the individual companies we acquire.”
Pegasus, patterned after European luxury conglomerates like LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton and Gucci Group, recently acquired Pamela Dennis’s eveningwear business and is looking to buy about 10 brands in the next two years. Miguel Adrover, Daryl K, Cynthia Rowley and John Bartlett have been identified as potential targets for Pegasus.
Ruzow said brands Pegasus acquires will keep their public relations and advertising staff or agencies but will report to Weisenfeld, who can offer his expertise as well as leverage group advertising buys.
