Diane Von Furstenberg loves to entertain, and this Sunday she’ll be throwing open the doors of her space on West 12th Street to the likes of Glenn Close, Bryce Marden, Francesco Clemente, Matthew Broderick, Taye Diggs, Betsey Johnson, Harvey Keitel, Fran Lebowitz, Chloe Sevigny and Barbara Walters.
The annual Kids For Kids pediatric AIDS charity event, where celebrities work various kid-friendly outdoor booths, takes place Sunday afternoon outside of Fabrizio Ferre’s West Village photo complex.
“I’m not hosting the event,” Von Furstenberg said. “I’m just letting the celebrities change here. It’s a lot easier asking people to this than inviting them to a cocktail party.”
Von Furstenberg is in the process of converting parts of the building into her first free-standing store, but she’s thinking about a gallery, a studio and even a tea shop.
“If it works,” she said, “then I’ll take the concept to London and Los Angeles. Wherever I go, I meet some young girl who says, ‘I just bought one of your vintage pieces.’ And I say, ‘Why don’t you buy one of the new ones?”‘
