The sun may have set in London, but that didn’t stop models, fashion heavyweights and young socials from throwing on their Chanel sunglasses and filing into The Avenue restaurant last week for a party celebrating the launch of Chanel’s new eyewear line — just in time for summer.
Anita Pallenberg, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and Gerard Wertheimer, the chairman of Chanel, all got into the spirit by sporting the distinctly Seventies-looking new shades. Kate Moss, in head-to-toe CCs, arrived with friend Sadie Frost, whose husband, Jude Law, was kept away on a film project.
A few days later in Paris, a crowd stormed Christie’s new exhibition celebrating young French design. Christie’s owner Francois Pinault couldn’t make it, but his son, Francois-Henri, turned up in his place.
“My father’s at the presidential dinner at the Elysees Palace and I’m here with the young artists,” he explained. “It all makes sense.”
