NEW YORK — Oscar de la Renta scored his biggest trunk show last week, and it happened at the Saks Fifth Avenue flagship here.
The designer posted slightly over $1 million in sales for the May 2 – 5 event. Aside from being an Oscar record-breaker, the trunk show was among the most successful ever held at Saks. Only Giorgio Armani and Bill Blass events in past seasons have racked up higher sales, also in the million-dollar range. Blass’s fall collection is previewed at the store this week.
The most popular pieces from the fall 2000 Oscar de la Renta collection for day were crewel-embroidered jackets and coats, priced from $4,400 to $8,400. Leathers, priced from $1,900 to $4,000, were also bestsellers, as were thick cashmeres priced at $2,000.
For evening, a $4,000 full-skirted cocktail suit was the bestseller.
“More than ever, women appreciate and understand the craftsmanship, luxury and fine detail of Oscar de la Renta clothing,” said Chris Tully, director of sales for Oscar de la Renta Ltd.
