DFA AWARDS ARE SET
DALLAS — Brighton accessories was nominated for a record-setting eighth consecutive year for the Dallas Fashion Awards, the annual fashion competition sponsored by the International Apparel Mart to recognize outstanding design and sell-through ability.
Brighton, which has won in the accessories category every year since 1993, with the exception of 1995, was named in accessories, along with Fossil and Echo Scarves.
In the awards program, the Mart comes up with three finalists in each of 11 categories by polling retailers and fashion media. Winners are determined by a vote of buyers shopping the August market in Dallas.
Custo Barcelona, Jane Doe and Poleci are the competitors in the contemporary category, and Roxy Quiksilver, Urban Outfitters and Girlstar will vie to win the junior contemporary trophy.
In designer women’s wear, finalists are Ellen Tracy, Theory and Garfield & Marks, while sportswear nominees are Telluride, Bentley-Arbuckle and Cambio.
Finalists in eveningwear are Carmen Marc Valvo, ABS and Rose Taft Couture, while Maggy London, Shomi and Donna Morgan were named for dresses.
Jewelry contestants are Barse and Co., Dian Malouf and Reflections, and in swimwear the nominees are XOXO, Raisins and Nautica Swimwear.
Rocketwear, Kinnarid and Karen Newburger will compete in intimate apparel, and Cach Cach, Marsha and Catamini are the finalists for children’s wear.
Fashions by the nominees will be featured in a runway show Aug. 18 in the Great Hall of the Mart during market week. Winners will be announced at a benefit dinner in the Great Hall scheduled for Oct. 21 during spring market. The beneficiary has not yet been determined.
