KRAUTER EXPANDS ROLE AT GOODY’S
NEW YORK — Lana Cain Krauter, president of Goody’s Family Clothing, has expanded her responsibilities to include merchandising.
Krauter’s new title will be president and chief merchandising officer.
She joined Goody’s, the 307-unit retailer of branded family apparel based in Knoxville, Tenn., in January as president and special assistant to Goody’s chairman Robert Goodfriend. She continues to oversee stores, marketing, advertising and human resources. Max Jones, who joined Goody’s in August as executive vice president of merchandising, initially had reported to Goodfriend and now reports to Krauter.
A spokesman characterized the change as a shift in organizational structure, evening out the areas reporting to Goodfriend and Krauter.
“Lana has been an incredible asset to Goody’s since joining us earlier this year,” Goodfriend said in a statement. “She truly understands the challenges ahead for the company and has the merchandising experience and insight we need to help lead us through our turnaround efforts.”
Prior to joining Goody’s, Krauter was senior vice president of Sears Merchandise Group with responsibility for women’s ready-to-wear, intimate apparel and accessories.
Earlier this month, Goody’s reported that its same-store sales dropped 8.5 percent in September, principally because of “a reduction in sales of clearance merchandise, prompted by our strategic decision to limit the availability of such merchandise,” Goodfriend said in a statement. In August, the same-store decline was 1.9 percent.
In its second quarter, Goody’s had a net loss of $3.5 million on $295.5 million in sales. Sales were ahead 8.9 percent but down 1.8 percent on a same-store basis.
