BLASSPORT TAPS SCHECTER
NEW YORK — Debbie Schecter, a former executive at Donnkenny Inc., has been named president of Blassport, a $10 million moderate line licensed to The Design & Source Holding Co.
She will be in charge of marketing, sales and merchandising and will report to Haresh T. Tharani, chairman of Bill Blass and Design & Source Holding. According to Tharani, Schecter will spearhead the company’s plans to increase distribution by 60 to 70 percent by the end of 2001. The line made its debut in 500 doors last spring and has expanded to 1,200 doors for fall.
Tharani said Schecter’s “dynamic merchandising and marketing background will nicely complement the goals which we have set.”
Most recently, Schecter served as executive vice president of the Casey & Max and Victoria Jones divisions of Donnkenny for 11 years. She is also a former vice president of Fire Islander.
When she begins her duties on Oct. 11, she will be replacing Steve Colombo who is relocating to Chicago for personal reasons and will now be Blassport’s vice president of sales.
