NEW YORK — Hennes & Mauritz has its hands on another high-profile site in the U.S.
The Swedish chain plans to open a 35,000-square-foot unit at 350 Washington Street in the Downtown Crossing section of Boston in 2002, the company said Monday. H&M is part of a plan to help revive shopping in the Downtown Crossing area.
H&M, which has been playing to packed houses since it opened in the U.S. in March, particularly in its Fifth Avenue store in Manhattan, continues to scout other urban sites and secondary markets in the U.S. It is believed to be considering the Bradlees site on 14th Street in Union Square here. That lease expires next month, as reported in WWD. H&M is also opening a 40,000-square-foot, three-level store on 34th Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues on Oct. 27.
