NEW YORK — Claude Johnson has joined Benetton Sportsystem as vice president of marketing.
Most recently, Johnson ran The Smart Set, a brand consulting and licensing company he founded in Greenwich, Conn. Prior to that, he held various posts at Nike, the National Basketball Association and American Express Travel.
While the executive search was under way for Johnson’s post, Carlos Tunioli, vice president and general manager of BSS USA served as interim vice president of marketing.
Over the past several months, BSS USA has streamlined its sales and marketing by developing brand-focused teams.
In his new role, Johnson will oversee marketing for Benetton’s sports brands — Prince, Nordica, Rollerblade, Ektelon and Killer Loop.
Johnson is based at BSS USA’s offices in Bordentown, N.J., and reports to Paolo Denti, executive vice president of sales and marketing. BSS USA is owned by the Benetton Group, a $2.5 billion apparel, footwear and sporting goods company based in Ponzano, Italy.
