BARRETT DIRECTOR, TEACHER AT THE DOMUS ACADEMY
MILAN — The Milan-based men’s wear designer Neil Barrett is making a leap from showroom to classroom. Starting next month, Barrett will become artistic director of the fashion design faculty at the Domus Academy here.
Barrett, together with Italian designer Alessandro Dell’Acqua, will teach a series of workshops at the postgraduate fashion institute for the 2001 school year. Both men continue to design their own collections.
Although Barrett acknowledges that Domus may not carry the same prestige as some design schools in New York and London, he said he’s optimistic about its potential.
“We need to start somewhere. We want to pull in a younger generation by enticing them with innovative courses and giving them the experience of living in Italy,” Barrett said.
