NEW YORK — Saks Fifth Avenue’s Boca Raton, Fla., unit was burglarized this weekend and the thieves made off with close to $1 million in goods from the main floor.
Saks executives would not comment on the investigation, other than to say that it happened at about 4 a.m. Sunday. A group of about 18 broke into the store, which is in the Town Center Mall, and smashed lights, a window and several jewelry cases. They took about $900,000 worth of jewelry and accessories, and were out of the building in under 10 minutes. Although the main floor area was closed off by police Sunday and Monday, the store was open and shopping on other floors went on normally.
The Boca Raton Sherrif’s Department, under whose jurisdiction the incident falls, did not return calls seeking additional comment.
