MAC, Boots to Produce Limited-Edition Lines
LONDON — At least two beauty brands are fashioning limited-edition makeup collections for designers here this fall.
MAC Cosmetics will add another splash of color to its makeup offering in collaboration with Zandra Rhodes, and Boots the Chemists will unveil a collection for Eley Kishimoto under its 17 brand.
The Estée Lauder Cos. Inc.-owned MAC brand has teamed with colorful British designer Rhodes to create a limited-edition collection that will bow in September. The launch will coincide with Rhodes’ return to the runway after a 20-year hiatus. The designer will show her spring-summer collection during London Fashion Week in September, after which MAC will fete their collaboration with a cocktail party.
Currently, Rhodes’ seasonal apparel collections are sold through stores including 10 Corso Como, Barneys New York and Harrods.
“I love color and makeup, and MAC is a company synonymous with colorful and vibrant makeup, which I personally always use,” said Rhodes in a statement. “It’s a true marriage made in color.”
The collection includes hues created specifically for Rhodes, as well as existing MAC products. The line features an eye shadow compact containing six shades, including Zandra, which is pink with silver and pink sparkles, and Phloof!, in frosted off-white. There are three lipsticks in yellow-bronze and orange tints, as well as two lip glosses. Packaging features a gold finish and colorful illustrations by Rhodes.
“Zandra was quite an inspiration,” said Jennifer Balbier, senior vice president of MAC Cosmetics, in the statement. “She is the queen of color. Her colors are bright, bold and modern.”
The collection, priced in the U.K. from 10.50 pounds, or $19.20 at current exchange, for a lip gloss to 29 pounds, or $53, for an eye shadow compact, will be sold in the U.K. exclusively in Harrods department store and on MAC’s U.K. e-tailing Web site. It will also be available in North America and Asia from September.
Boots, the British pharmacy retailer, has linked with Eley Kishimoto to create a limited-edition makeup collection for its 17 brand. For its first foray into beauty, the fashion label will offer in September a collection of five eye shadows under the moniker 17 by Eley Kishimoto. A holiday-inspired gift set, dubbed 17 by Eley Kishimoto Gift and comprising mascara, eye shadow, lip gloss and a compact mirror, will bow in December. The makeup items are inspired by the fashion brand’s fall/winter fashion collection.
This is Boots’ third fashion collaboration; it has already partnered with FrostFrench and Karen Walker for similar limited-edition lines.

Gary Farn Names Marketing V.P.
NEW YORK — Fragrance sales and marketing firm Gary Farn Ltd. has named Theresa Plavoukos vice president of marketing. Plavoukos was most recently executive director of marketing at the Estée Lauder Cos.’ BeautyBank division, and prior to that she had been global marketing director at Maybelline. In her new post, Plavoukos oversees market planning for the brands Gary Farn handles — including Annick Goutal, Emanuel Ungaro, Etro, Lolita Lempicka and Salvatore Ferragamo — and will help develop new partnerships for the company, the firm said. Plavoukos reports to Alison Farn Leigh, president of Gary Farn.
