NEW YORK — “We are trying to bring glamour back to the industry and to retail, and if tonight is any indication, we are succeeding,” said Marc Rosen, the packaging designer and creator of the new Shanghai women’s fragrance, which is being launched exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Rosen was speaking Thursday evening before a glittery crowd of socialites and industry celebrities at a dinner thrown by Fred Wilson, the newly minted president and chief executive of Saks, to mark the launch of the fragrance. Among those seated at the tables were Lauren Bush, Amanda Hearst and Nicole Miller.
Wilson, who had just completed his 18th day as ceo, was ebullient. “Saks Fifth Avenue is going to sell a gazillion dollars of this,” he said, then added, “we are going to rock ’n’ roll.”
